Metropolitan Pole of the Côte d’Opale

2023-2027

Region Hauts-de-France, FRANCE

The Pôle Métropolitain Côte d’Opale (PMCO) has been committed for several years to combating marine submersion and coastal erosion through the creation of the Joint Sea Defense Service (SDCM) on January 1st, 2019.

PMCO assists four Public Establishments for Intercommunal Coastal Cooperation, which are, from North to South, the Urban Community of Dunkerque (CUD), the Commune Community of the Audruicq Region (CCRA), the Commune of La Terre des 2 Caps (CCT2C) and the Commune of Agglomeration of Boulonnais (CAB) in their projects related to the fight against coastal erosion. It is tasked with supporting the member local authorities:

  • In the execution of studies and works to repair defensive structures against the sea,
  • In the development of concerted and coordinated policies for the planning and organization of the coastal area, at the scale of the Côte d’Opale,
  • In the implementation of the «defense against the sea» competence of the GEMAPI, and in particular in the definition of the containment systems.

For the PMCO, setec énergie environnement provides technical and regulatory assistance for projects to combat the phenomena of marine submersion and coastal erosion along the D’Opale coast. The main tasks entrusted to it are:

  • Execution of field missions based on needs (benthic fauna, avifauna, marine mammals, etc.);
  • Preparation of regulatory dossiers;
  • Advice and regulatory oversight;
  • Assistance during instruction.
