RTE NETWORK FOR ELECTRICITY TRANSPORT

2024-2027

Gironde/Loire Atlantique, FRANCE

The GILA project (Gironde/Loire Atlantique), is a major project to develop the French electricity network, carried out by RTE. It is fully in line with the multi-annual energy programming initiative, which aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy, particularly offshore wind energy. This project has a dual strategic purpose: connecting the future offshore wind farms in the Atlantic and strengthening the electricity network in the western part of France.

The project consists of:

  • the creation of a new 320,000-volt, direct current electric power line under the Atlantic façade,
  • the creation of land-based conversion stations, connected to existing stations (Cordemais, Braud, Marquis or Cubnezais), or the creation of connections – depending on the evolution of the project – between the departments of Loire-Atlantique and Gironde.

This new marine electrical network would be designed so that it can be interconnected with any future offshore wind projects that may be developed in the future.

The setec énergie environnement/egis group was notified in June 2024 by RTE for the implementation of the «initial environmental status, the impact study and the application dossiers necessary for the connection of the offshore wind farms of the PPE3 and the project to strengthen the Atlantic façade network».
The requested service includes:

  • the drafting of bibliographical studies, the qualification and mapping of environmental sensitivities;
  • the implementation of field inventories using rigorous methodologies and an extent adapted to the project, as well as the obtaining of the permits related to the implementation of these inventories;
  • participation in consultation workshops and the drafting of the consultation dossier as well as all the environmental permit dossiers necessary for the approval of the projects (impact assessment, CUDPM, CUP, land clearance dossiers, Natura 2000 impact dossiers, DDAE, DAU, MEC).
Challenge

To sustainably strengthen the electrical grid in the Atlantic façade and connect future offshore wind capacities while managing the environmental and regulatory challenges of a large-scale national infrastructure project.
