RTE NETWORK FOR ELECTRICITY TRANSPORT

2023-2027

Charente-Maritime (Ile d’Oléron), FRANCE

Under the ESSOC law, the State ensures the first stages of the authorization procedure for offshore wind projects and their connection. In this capacity, it must establish an up-to-date state of the environment in the areas intended for future competitive bidding procedures.

Mandataire de la mission, setec énergie environnement is leading the environmental investigations of the project. the AO7 zone in the South Atlantic in order to produce in-depth and objective knowledge of the marine environment, which is essential for the preparation of the project.

The mission consisted of conducting, in addition to a bibliographic initial report, the necessary field studies for all the sections studied over a period of 1 to 2 years:

  • For water quality: measurements and water sampling (1/month);
  • For underwater noise: passive listening with hydrophones and C-PODS (continuous);
  • For marine habitats and benthic communities: sampling by bucket (1/year), videos and photos by ROV (1/year);
  • For the ichthyoplankton: measurements and sampling (1/month);
  • For halieutic populations: scientific fishing (1/season);
  • For the landscape: description and identification of the issues.

The preparation of environmental assessment studies, the impact assessment and the application dossiers required for the connections for the marine section:

  • Impact study;
  • Natura 2000 impact assessment file;
  • File on derogation for protected species;
  • Study of landscape impact;
  • Study of the acoustic impact of underwater works;
  • Study of the impact of offshore activities on turbidity.
Challenge

Accompanying RTE in the preparation of the terrestrial and submarine connections for the future wind farm in the South Atlantic Ocean (AO7), an essential link in the development of renewable marine energies in France. The challenge was to build a robust environmental knowledge base and secure all the regulatory procedures necessary for the project, in a complex maritime context characterized by extreme conditions and multiple ecological issues.
