Offshore wind turbines in the Iles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier

2024-2026

Islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, FRANCE

The offshore wind farm located off the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier is the subject of an environmental monitoring program intended to assess the interactions between renewable energy production infrastructure and marine ecosystems.

Within this framework, setec énergie environnement carries out a specific monitoring of the fisheries resource according to protocols identical to those implemented during the baseline period, thus ensuring the comparability of the results over time.

We have carried out scientific campaigns aboard professional fishing vessels chartered specifically for the monitoring purposes of characterizing:

  • The benthic species of fish and cephalopods (on a net),
  • The large crustaceans (in case of need),
  • Breeding and nursery facilities (eggs and larvae sampled using the bongo net).

The protocols established have been validated by the management committee and the scientific monitoring committee and are identical to those applied during the baseline period. Their objective is to describe the present populations and to detect qualitative or quantitative changes in the fishery resource.

Challenge

Accurately measure the potential effects of the construction of the offshore wind farm in the Yeu and Noirmoutier Islands on fishery resources, while ensuring the comparability of the results with the baseline established before the works.
