Offshore Wind Farm of Provence Grand Large

2022 – ongoing

Gulf of Fos, FRANCE

The company PEOPGL (Offshore Wind Farm of Provence Grand Large) was the winner of the tender for the’ADEME as part of the future investment program. Located off the coast of Fos Bay, this pilot park aims to test new offshore wind technologies while evaluating their impact on the marine environment. As part of the permits obtained for the installation and operation of the park, a pre-and post-work environmental monitoring program has been prescribed to monitor the evolution of the biological and physicochemical parameters of the site.

Setec énergie environnement has carried out the monitoring of the fishery resources of the floating wind farm:

  • Bottom-trawling campaigns aboard a professional fishing vessel;
  • Quantitative and qualitative characterization of the fish populations present in the study area;
  • Seasonal adjustments to account for seasonal variations in the assemblages of species during the «cold» (mid-January to mid-March) and «warm» (mid-July to mid-September) seasons;
  • Processing of samples, data analysis and production of reports.
Challenge

Accompanying the development of one of the first French floating wind farms in the sea by evaluating the evolution of the fisheries resources before and after the commissioning of the installations.

Key figures
  1. 3 monitoring zones: immediate perimeter (200 m), close (1 to 3 km) and distant (5 km) from the wind turbines
  2. 8 sampling stations
Expertise
  1. Fisheries resources
  2. Marine biodiversity and ecology
  3. Environmental monitoring and instrumentation
