marine and coastal environmental assessment

Projects at the heart of sensitive ecosystems

Les maritime infrastructure, the port facilities, the subsea cables ou les marine renewable energies se développent dans des environnements où interagissent biodiversity, human activities and marine usages. Their design requires an in-depth understanding of the environments and the balances that characterise them.

Far more than a regulatory requirement, the environmental assessment is a genuine decision-making tool. It enables the identification of environmental issues, the evaluation of scenarios, the anticipation of potential impacts and the safeguarding of project development, whilst enhancing their acceptability. It also helps to guide development decisions, to validate the authorisation process and to reduce legal and scheduling risks.

We support public and private project owners at every stage of their projects, from the initial phase to environmental monitoring. By combining scientific expertise, knowledge of regulatory requirements and knowledge of maritime and coastal uses, we provide a broad overview of the issues involved to design projects that are better integrated into their environment.

Our missions

Preliminary studies and environmental characterisation

Analysis of data from field surveys, ecological inventories, habitat and land-use mapping, and assessments of environmental vulnerabilities in the marine and coastal environments.

Impact assessment and definition of mitigation hierarchy measures

Analysis of direct, indirect, cumulative and temporal impacts. Development of measures for avoidance, reduction and offset (ARO) tailored to environmental issues and the regulatory context.

Environmental monitoring

Implementation of multi-year monitoring programmes to assess the effectiveness of the measures implemented and to document the actual effects of the projects on marine ecosystems.

Regulatory support and consultation

Preparation of regulatory dossiers, support for discussions with examining authorities and scientific committees, and contribution to consultation processes with local stakeholders.

Our clients

  • Developers of marine renewable energy projects
  • Port authorities and maritime infrastructure managers, coastal developments, dredging, port expansion or submarine cable laying.
  • Government authorities, water agencies, Marine Protected Area managers, coastal local authorities
