PIICTO and Capenergies

2024

Fos-sur-Mer, France

As part of the Bas-Carbone Industrial Zone (ZIBAC) program «SYRIUS» (Synergic Industrial Regeneration of the South), PIICTO and Capénergies have undertaken a study to understand the evolution of the energy system in the industrial-portual territory of Fos, the Berre Estuary and the Gardanne Basin.

The objective: to have a consolidated view of consumption, production, and network capacities in order to feed decarbonization strategies and promote the emergence of local low-carbon energy projects.

In conjunction with E-Cube Strategy Consultants, We intervene on the following missions:

  • Identifying the local potential for decarbonized electricity production: photovoltaics, wind power (offshore and onshore), hydropower and other sources under development;
  • Identifying the local potential for decarbonized heat production: waste heat recovery in industry, biomass heating, CSR heating, geothermal energy, thermal energy from the sea;
  • Identifying the local potential for the production of decarbonized gas: pyrogasification, hydrothermal gasification, methanization.

To this end, we have notably achieved:

  • Interviews with 40 industrialists to analyze energy usage, needs, and potential;
  • A detailed study of the recoverable deposits: waste, biomass, CSR, STEP sludge, crop residues, digestates…
  • A quantification of the potential for renewable energy production by 2030, 2040, and 2050;
  • A benchmark for emerging technologies for low-carbon energy production;
  • The construction of prospective scenarios to guide future industrial and territorial decarbonization projects.
Challenge

Bringing together a group of heterogeneous industrial actors around a shared energy vision, while integrating the diversity of local resources (waste, biomass, CSR, thermal waste, renewable resources)
